At least I'm making money' (and other lies we tell ourselves)😢

Hey Reader!

Last month I saw something that broke my heart.
A business owner making $50K per launch but spending $45K on costs.
'At least I'm making money,' she said.
Then her ads stopped working.
Her team burned out.
And suddenly, those fancy funnels weren't so fancy anymore...

I need to get something off my chest.
And it might ruffle some feathers, but here we go.

You know those exhausting launch cycles?
The ones where your team's "Good morning!" messages start coming in at midnight?
Where everyone's chugging coffee like water and living on protein bars?

Yeah... I think it's time we break up with them.

Here's what I'm seeing everywhere:

  • $100K months but $90K in expenses
  • 'Six-figure launches' with five-figure ad spend
  • Huge teams managing empty funnels
  • 'Freedom' businesses that feel like prison
  • Entrepreneurs who haven't taken a real break in years

The truth? Most 'successful' businesses are just expensive hamster wheels.

Look at the typical 'successful' online business:

  • $30K monthly revenue
  • $15K on ads
  • $8K on team
  • $5K on tools
  • $1K on subscriptions

Net profit? Less than a junior employee's salary.
This isn't success. It's sophisticated survival.

That's when I had my big AHA moment...

The BIGGEST mistake? (And oh boy, this is uncomfortably true)
We're all jumping into tactics without having a rock-solid strategy.

It's like trying to build a house on Jelly. Sure, you can do it... but should you?

Before you even THINK about:

  • Building that fancy funnel
  • Setting up that complex email sequence
  • Creating that expensive course
  • Hiring that ads team

You need to answer these foundation-shaking questions...

🎯 Question 1: What's the ONE core problem your business solves?

Bad example: "I help businesses with their marketing strategy"
Good example: "I serve as a Fractional CMO for growing businesses who need executive-level marketing strategy but aren't ready for a full-time CMO"

🎯 Question 2: Who are you REALLY trying to help?

Bad example: "Small businesses who need marketing help"
Good example: "7-figure businesses who have outgrown their current marketing approach but can't justify a full-time CMO"

🎯 Question 3: What makes your solution different?
Bad example: "I create marketing strategies"
Good example: "I bring Fortune 500 marketing experience through a proven 30-day system that builds your marketing foundation, then scales what works"

🎯 Question 4: What's your unique position in the market?
Bad example: "Professional and reliable"
Good example: "Your Fractional CMO who builds and leads your entire marketing strategy and team, turning scattered marketing efforts into a cohesive revenue system"

Want to know what's wild?
I keep seeing more businesses succeed with less:

  • One welcome sequence
  • One core offer
  • One key team member
  • Zero fancy funnels

The results? Higher profits. More freedom. Less stress. And usually half the working hours.

Now, once you have these locked in (and not a minute before!), here's what successful businesses are ACTUALLY doing...

They're building what I call "Hybrid Funnels" (and they're genius!)

Instead of those exhausting launches, they combine:

Daily Automated Sales:

  • A simple welcome sequence that sells their low-ticket offer
  • An evergreen webinar promoting their core program
  • Automated discovery call bookings

(The truth? Many businesses now make consistent income from their low-ticket products alone - no launching required!)

And Strategic Launch Periods:

  • Quarterly live workshops
  • Annual flagship program launch
  • Seasonal promotions

The RIGHT Way to Start? Here's Your 30-Day Plan:

Week 1: Strategy Deep Dive

  • Monday: Answer Question 1
  • Tuesday: Answer Question 2
  • Wednesday: Answer Question 3
  • Thursday: Answer Question 4
  • Friday: Review and refine

Week 2: Pick ONE Automation

  • Set up a simple welcome sequence
  • 3 emails max
  • One clear call to action

Week 3: Choose Your Specialty

  • Look at your last 5 favorite clients
  • Find the common thread
  • Rewrite your messaging

Week 4: Track ONE Metric

  • For beginners: Email open rates
  • For intermediate: Sales conversion rate
  • For advanced: Customer lifetime value

Success isn't about doing MORE things...
It's about doing the RIGHT things in the RIGHT order.

You don't need:

  • 17 different funnels
  • A complex tech stack
  • A huge team
  • Monthly launches

You need:

  • Crystal clear strategy
  • ONE solid system
  • Consistent execution
  • Regular optimisation

I'm seeing businesses completely transform when they:

  • Simplify their offers
  • Focus on one main funnel
  • Launch quarterly instead of monthly
  • And yes... actually take time off!

Where are you in your journey? Are you ready to break up with exhausting launch cycles and build something sustainable?

I'd love to hear your thoughts!
Margo

Stop making your product endlessly available. Instead, introduce artificial scarcity through waitlists and capped enrollment.

Fed up with your dream customers overlooking you? Here’s a straightforward two-step method that really works—and it doesn’t give off those pushy sales vibes!

Content Marketing Needs to Evolve Beyond SEO

Tired of chasing Google rankings with nothing to show for it? Here’s a hard truth about SEO that most marketers won’t share—it might just change how you think about creating content. The real secret? Stop fixating on keywords and rankings, because that’s a common path to failure.

Instead, focus on crafting content that truly resonates with real people. Think about it: building just for Google means you’re playing on borrowed land. But when you prioritise creativity and genuine connections with your audience, the rankings tend to follow naturally. After all, algorithms may shift, but excellent content that engages real people? That remains timeless.

Hey Reader, Yesterday I was sitting at my desk checking my LinkedIn engagement data (yes, I'm that person ), and I've discovered something fascinating about what's actually driving leads (not just likes). But first, the biggest realisation of all: Stop writing for everyone. Write for ONE person - the one you really want to work with. Yes, it feels terrifying. Yes, your reach might drop. But when your DM inbox fills with messages from exactly the right people because they self-identified with...

Hey Reader, Quick question: are we all overthinking AI? Last week, I watched a client struggle with their "advanced AI workflow system" (their words, not mine 😅).
